From cup to beautiful paper. These notecard sets have been made from disposable coffee cups, previously destined for landfill. Using CupCycling the paper is eco-friendly and 100% recyclable.
Rubyblue Paper Co has launched some recycled notecard sets called Extract, which takes the disposable cups destined for landfill and transforms them into beautiful quality paper.
We use 4,861 disposable cups per minute in the UK. That equates to 7 million cups used in one day. Averaging out as 2.5 billion cups thrown away every year. Extract is a way of tackling this, every sheet of paper is composed from at least 5 up-cycled coffee cups. Creating paper with a superior quality, it is a combination of chemistry and artistry.
The process is called CupCycling, it is dedicated to upcycling takeaway cups. They have always been difficult to recycle due to the layer of plastic that is sealed to the paper (to keep the drink warm), it makes it particularly challenging, as most recycling plants are not designed to carry out the separation of plastic and paper.
The more Extract that gets used means the fewer cups go to landfill or incineration. It means thousands of cups get recycled and you get gorgeous paper, win win!
Extract paper has a lovely texture and I’m so excited to launch it as one of my ranges. The notecards come with a simple heart or a sophisticated ‘I used to be a coffee cup’ letterpress design. Each set is completely made with Extract including the notecards, envelopes and presentation box, they come in lovely colours too such as shell pink, moon and mustard. The boxes contain ten A6 cards and envelopes.
Next time you have a takeout at Starbucks or Costa, think about where your cup might end up, it could be in an envelope!
